Background of the Study
Radio has long been a vital medium for disseminating information, especially in rural areas, where access to modern technology may be limited. In Adamawa State, agriculture is a primary source of livelihood, and farmers rely on various sources of information to improve their productivity. Agricultural extension services are crucial in providing farmers with knowledge on best practices, modern techniques, and government policies related to agriculture. Radio serves as an effective channel for delivering agricultural extension services, as it can reach large audiences, including those in remote and underserved communities. This study explores how radio, specifically in Ganye LGA, enhances the delivery of agricultural extension services, fostering rural development, and improving agricultural practices among local farmers.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the importance of agricultural extension services, many farmers in Ganye LGA still struggle with limited access to timely and relevant information. Although radio is an accessible medium, its potential for enhancing agricultural extension services has not been thoroughly explored in this region. This study aims to fill this gap by assessing the role of radio in improving the delivery of agricultural extension services in Ganye LGA and how it influences farmers’ knowledge and practices.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the role of radio in disseminating agricultural extension services to farmers in Ganye LGA.

  2. To explore the effectiveness of radio in providing relevant and timely agricultural information to farmers.

  3. To evaluate the impact of radio-based agricultural extension services on the adoption of modern farming practices in Ganye LGA.

1.4 Research Questions

  1. How does radio contribute to the dissemination of agricultural extension services to farmers in Ganye LGA?

  2. How effective is radio in providing farmers with timely and relevant information about agricultural best practices?

  3. What is the impact of radio-based agricultural extension services on the adoption of modern farming techniques in Ganye LGA?

1.5 Research Hypotheses

  1. Radio plays a significant role in disseminating agricultural extension services to farmers in Ganye LGA.

  2. Farmers in Ganye LGA receive timely and relevant agricultural information through radio broadcasts.

  3. Radio-based agricultural extension services positively influence the adoption of modern farming techniques in Ganye LGA.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will provide valuable insights into the effectiveness of radio as a tool for enhancing agricultural extension services, which could be replicated in other rural areas. By evaluating the impact of radio on farmers’ knowledge and practices, the findings will help agricultural extension workers and policymakers understand the benefits of using radio to bridge information gaps and foster agricultural development. Additionally, it will highlight the potential for radio to improve food security and rural livelihoods through the dissemination of agricultural knowledge.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
This study focuses on the role of radio in enhancing agricultural extension services in Ganye LGA, Adamawa State. The research will consider radio stations broadcasting agricultural content and assess their effectiveness in reaching farmers. Limitations include the potential for biased responses from participants and challenges in measuring the direct impact of radio on agricultural practices.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms

  1. Agricultural Extension Services: Programs designed to educate farmers on best practices, new technologies, and government policies aimed at improving agricultural productivity.

  2. Radio Broadcasting: The act of transmitting audio content over the airwaves to a wide audience through radio stations.

  3. Modern Farming Practices: Agricultural techniques that involve the use of advanced tools, machinery, and methods to increase productivity and sustainability.
