Background of the Study
Kaltungo LGA in Gombe State is home to various local tourism sites with the potential to attract visitors from across the country and beyond. However, the challenge of creating awareness and promoting these sites to a wider audience remains. Advertising plays a crucial role in raising awareness about local tourism, and well-targeted advertising campaigns can help to drive the popularity of such sites. According to Abubakar and Ibrahim (2023), advertising can significantly impact tourism by showcasing the unique cultural, historical, and natural attractions that make a destination appealing. However, the role of advertising in driving the popularity of local tourism sites in Kaltungo LGA has not been sufficiently explored. This study aims to assess the role of advertising in promoting local tourism in the region.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Kaltungo LGA has numerous tourism attractions, but the lack of effective advertising has limited their visibility and potential for attracting tourists. Despite efforts by local authorities to promote tourism, the region still faces challenges in utilizing advertising effectively to boost its tourism industry.
Omar and Musa (2024) argue that tourism advertising is essential for building a destination’s brand and attracting visitors. This study will investigate how advertising can drive the popularity of local tourism sites in Kaltungo LGA.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the role of advertising in driving the popularity of local tourism sites in Kaltungo LGA.

  2. To examine the impact of advertising on increasing tourist visits to Kaltungo LGA.

  3. To identify the challenges in promoting local tourism sites through advertising in Kaltungo LGA.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study will offer insights into how advertising can be leveraged to promote local tourism and stimulate economic growth in Kaltungo LGA. The findings will benefit local governments, tourism stakeholders, and advertising agencies by providing strategies for effectively promoting local tourism destinations.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is focused on the tourism sector in Kaltungo LGA, Gombe State, and examines the role of advertising in promoting local tourism sites within the region.

  1. Local Tourism Sites: Tourist destinations within a specific local area, often highlighting unique cultural, historical, or natural attractions.
