Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Radio remains one of the most accessible and effective forms of communication in rural areas, particularly in regions like Gusau Local Government Area, Zamfara State. Local dialect radio advertising, which uses the language and cultural references of the target audience, plays a significant role in reaching rural populations. According to Ibrahim and Umar (2023), local dialect radio advertising enhances message clarity, fosters trust, and improves the likelihood of consumer action in rural communities. In Gusau, radio advertising is used to promote various developmental initiatives, including health campaigns, agricultural programs, and government policies. This study investigates the role of local dialect radio advertising in rural development, focusing on its impact on community awareness, participation, and behavioral change.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While radio advertising in local dialects is widely used in Gusau, its specific role in rural development remains under-explored.
