1.1 Background of the Study
Dukku Local Government Area (LGA) in Gombe State, located in northeastern Nigeria, faces significant environmental challenges, including deforestation, soil erosion, and desertification. One of the most effective solutions to mitigate these issues is the promotion of tree planting campaigns. Trees play a crucial role in maintaining the ecological balance, providing shade, improving air quality, and combating soil erosion. However, there is a need for widespread awareness and community involvement in tree planting initiatives. Photography, with its powerful visual appeal, can be a highly effective tool in raising awareness and mobilizing support for tree planting campaigns. This study aims to examine how photography can be used to advocate for tree planting in Dukku LGA, highlighting the importance of environmental conservation and community engagement.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the environmental benefits of tree planting, Dukku LGA faces challenges in engaging local communities in large-scale tree planting efforts. There is a lack of widespread awareness about the ecological benefits of trees and the urgent need to reverse deforestation trends. Photography can play an essential role in visualizing the consequences of environmental degradation, as well as showcasing the positive impact of tree planting initiatives. However, its potential for advocacy in this regard has not been fully explored. This study seeks to examine how photography can be harnessed as a tool for promoting tree planting campaigns in Dukku LGA.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study is significant because it highlights the potential of photography as a powerful tool for environmental advocacy. By capturing the impact of environmental degradation and the positive outcomes of tree planting, photography can motivate individuals and communities to take action. The study also underscores the role of visual media in fostering sustainable environmental practices and promoting ecological conservation efforts in rural communities.
1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses specifically on Dukku LGA in Gombe State and examines the role of photography in advocating for tree planting campaigns. It does not extend to other environmental issues or regions outside Dukku LGA.
