Background of the Study
The equitable distribution of state allocations is a critical aspect of resource management in Nigeria, ensuring that public funds are allocated fairly across sectors and regions. Government accounting provides a framework for tracking and reporting financial transactions, promoting transparency and accountability in resource distribution (Transparency International, 2024).
Akwa Ibom State, known for its significant oil revenue, relies heavily on state allocations for developmental projects. However, issues such as unequal resource distribution and lack of transparency have raised concerns about the effectiveness of government accounting practices in ensuring equity (Etim & Ekong, 2025).
This study evaluates the impact of government accounting on the equitable distribution of state allocations in Akwa Ibom State, highlighting successes and challenges.
Statement of the Problem
Despite substantial state allocations, Akwa Ibom State has faced challenges in achieving equitable distribution of resources. Weaknesses in government accounting practices, coupled with political interference and corruption, have hindered efforts to ensure fairness in resource allocation.
Without addressing these challenges, the developmental goals of the state may remain unfulfilled. This study examines the impact of government accounting on addressing these issues and promoting equity in resource distribution.
