1.1 Background of the Study
Access to reliable electricity is a significant challenge for rural communities in many parts of Nigeria, including Gummi Local Government Area (LGA) in Zamfara State. Electricity is essential for economic development, education, healthcare, and improving overall living conditions. Despite the importance of rural electrification, many areas face challenges in achieving widespread access to power. Photography has the potential to raise awareness of the need for rural electrification by documenting the conditions of communities lacking electricity and showcasing the transformative impact of electrification projects. By capturing both the challenges and successes of electrification efforts, photography can serve as a powerful tool to advocate for change and mobilize support for rural electrification initiatives. This study explores how photography can be used to promote rural electrification in Gummi LGA, examining its role in raising awareness, engaging stakeholders, and influencing policy decisions.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While rural electrification is a critical issue in Gummi LGA, there has been limited use of photography as a tool to document the challenges and progress associated with electrification projects. The lack of visual documentation may contribute to insufficient awareness and support for rural electrification efforts. This study seeks to investigate how photography can be used to promote rural electrification in Gummi, examining its effectiveness in highlighting the needs of rural communities and advocating for policy change.
