1.1 Background of the Study
Urban beautification is a crucial aspect of city development, as it not only improves the aesthetic appeal of urban spaces but also enhances the quality of life for residents. In Kumo Local Government Area (LGA) in Gombe State, efforts to beautify urban spaces are gaining traction, with initiatives such as the planting of trees, the creation of public parks, and the renovation of public buildings. Photography plays a significant role in documenting these beautification efforts, as visual representations can influence public perceptions and attitudes towards urban development. By showcasing the transformation of public spaces, photography can increase awareness of urban beautification projects, encourage community participation, and garner support for further improvements. This study explores the impact of photography on the perception of urban beautification in Kumo, with the aim of understanding how visual imagery influences community attitudes and engagement with urban development initiatives.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to beautify urban spaces in Kumo, there remains a gap in public awareness and engagement with urban beautification projects. Many residents may not fully appreciate the significance of these initiatives or may not be aware of their potential benefits. Photography can serve as a tool to document the progress of urban beautification and highlight the positive impact these projects have on the community. However, the role of photography in shaping perceptions of urban beautification in Kumo has not been adequately explored. This study aims to fill this gap by investigating how photography influences the perception and appreciation of urban beautification efforts in Kumo.
