Background of the Study
Pension funds management is a critical aspect of financial management in local governments. The efficient management of these funds ensures that retirees receive their dues on time and in the correct amounts. The integration of Accounting Information Systems (AIS) can enhance the management of pension funds by providing automated, real-time tracking, reporting, and compliance. This study will examine the role of AIS in improving pension fund management across local government areas (LGAs).
Statement of the Problem
Pension fund mismanagement, delays in payments, and lack of transparency are prevalent issues in many local government areas. AIS can address these challenges by streamlining pension management processes. However, the role and effectiveness of AIS in managing pension funds across LGAs have not been sufficiently explored, necessitating this research.
Aim and Objectives of the Study
Aim: To evaluate the role of Accounting Information Systems in managing pension funds across local government areas.
Objectives:
To assess the current pension fund management practices across LGAs.
To evaluate the effectiveness of AIS in enhancing pension fund management.
To identify the challenges faced by LGAs in adopting AIS for pension fund management.
Research Questions
How is AIS currently utilized in managing pension funds in local government areas?
What impact does AIS have on the efficiency and transparency of pension fund management?
What challenges prevent the effective implementation of AIS in managing pension funds?
Research Hypothesis
H₀: AIS does not significantly improve the management of pension funds in local government areas.
H₀: There are no significant barriers to the adoption of AIS in pension fund management.
Significance of the Study
The study will provide valuable insights into how AIS can enhance the management of pension funds in LGAs, potentially offering a model for improving financial transparency, efficiency, and accountability in public sector pension schemes.
Scope and Limitation of the Study
The study will focus on pension fund management in various local government areas and the integration of AIS in this process. Limitations may include the availability of accurate pension management data from LGAs and resistance to providing details on pension fund issues.
