Background of the Study

This study aims to assess the current financial reporting practices in the hospitality sector in Karu LGA, identifying strengths and weaknesses and their impact on the sector's overall performance.

Statement of the Problem

Many businesses in the hospitality industry in Karu LGA face challenges with inconsistent and inaccurate financial reporting. This compromises their ability to make informed decisions, secure financing, and comply with tax and regulatory obligations. This study will explore the factors that contribute to weak financial reporting practices and their consequences.

Aim and Objectives of the Study

1. To evaluate the financial reporting practices in the hospitality industry in Karu LGA.

3. To recommend strategies for improving financial reporting in the hospitality industry.

Research Questions

1. What are the common financial reporting practices in the hospitality industry in Karu LGA?

2. How do these practices affect the financial performance and sustainability of hospitality businesses?

3. What challenges do businesses in the hospitality industry face regarding financial reporting, and how can these challenges be addressed?

Research Hypotheses

1. H₀: Financial reporting practices do not significantly affect the financial performance of businesses in the hospitality industry in Karu LGA.

2. H₀: There are no significant challenges in implementing effective financial reporting practices in the hospitality industry in Karu LGA.

Significance of the Study

This study will provide insights into the financial reporting practices of hospitality businesses and their role in improving business performance, transparency, and regulatory compliance. The findings will be useful for business owners, accountants, and policymakers looking to improve the hospitality industry's financial management practices.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

The study will focus on hospitality businesses in Karu LGA, including hotels, restaurants, and travel agencies. Limitations include the potential difficulty of obtaining financial records from private businesses and the reluctance of business owners to disclose financial data.
