Background of the Study

Cost-Volume-Profit (CVP) analysis is a crucial managerial accounting tool used to understand the relationship between costs, volume, and profit. For small enterprises, CVP analysis helps in making pricing, product mix, and production decisions. In regions like Gombe and Bauchi States, small enterprises often face financial challenges and a lack of proper cost management techniques. This study will evaluate the application and effectiveness of CVP analysis in improving the profitability of small enterprises in these states.

Statement of the Problem

Small enterprises in Northern Nigeria struggle with financial uncertainty and poor cost management practices, which can hinder their profitability and sustainability. The lack of proper application of CVP analysis limits the ability of small businesses to make informed decisions regarding pricing, cost control, and production. This study will explore how CVP analysis can be applied to improve decision-making and financial performance in small enterprises in Gombe and Bauchi States.

  2. To assess how CVP analysis influences pricing, cost control, and profit planning in these small enterprises.
  3. To explore the challenges faced by small enterprises in applying CVP analysis effectively.

  2. How does CVP analysis influence the pricing, cost control, and profitability of small enterprises?
  3. What are the barriers to effective application of CVP analysis in small enterprises in these states?

Research Hypothesis

  1. H₀: CVP analysis does not significantly impact the profitability of small enterprises in Gombe and Bauchi States.
  2. H₀: There is no significant relationship between the use of CVP analysis and the effectiveness of cost control in small enterprises in these states.

Significance of the Study

The study will provide valuable insights into the importance of CVP analysis for small enterprises and its role in enhancing financial decision-making. It will offer recommendations on how small businesses in Gombe and Bauchi States can use CVP analysis to improve profitability and sustainability.
