Background of the Study
Gender-based violence (GBV) is a pervasive issue that undermines the safety, dignity, and rights of individuals, particularly women and girls. Local media has emerged as a critical tool for raising awareness and fostering public discourse on GBV, particularly in rural and semi-urban areas like Kafanchan Local Government Area (LGA), Kaduna State. By disseminating information, advocating for survivors, and highlighting preventive measures, local media plays a pivotal role in addressing GBV. A recent study by Adekunle and Ibrahim (2023) underscores the impact of community media in sensitizing populations to the realities of GBV and encouraging collective action. This research examines the effectiveness of local media in raising awareness about GBV in Kafanchan LGA, exploring its methods, challenges, and impact on public perception and behavior.
