Background of the Study

Agricultural businesses in Nguru LGA play a significant role in the local economy, yet many face financial challenges due to fluctuating production costs and changing market conditions. Cost-Volume-Profit (CVP) analysis is a key managerial tool that helps businesses understand the relationship between costs, volume, and profits. This study will evaluate the effectiveness of CVP analysis in helping agricultural businesses in Nguru LGA improve their financial performance.

Statement of the Problem

Agricultural businesses in Nguru LGA often struggle to manage costs and optimize their production processes. Many lack the tools needed to evaluate how changes in production volume affect their profits. Cost-Volume-Profit analysis can provide valuable insights into these relationships, but its use in the local agricultural sector is under-researched.

Aim and Objectives of the Study

Aim: To evaluate the effectiveness of Cost-Volume-Profit (CVP) analysis in improving the financial performance of agricultural businesses in Nguru LGA.
Objectives:

  1. To assess the use of CVP analysis in agricultural businesses in Nguru LGA.
  2. To evaluate how CVP analysis influences decision-making and profitability in these businesses.
  3. To identify the challenges agricultural businesses face in applying CVP analysis.

Research Questions

  1. To what extent do agricultural businesses in Nguru LGA use CVP analysis?
  2. How does CVP analysis affect decision-making and profitability in agricultural businesses?
  3. What challenges do agricultural businesses face in applying CVP analysis?

Research Hypothesis

  1. H₀: CVP analysis does not significantly affect the profitability of agricultural businesses in Nguru LGA.
  2. H₀: There is no significant relationship between CVP analysis and decision-making in agricultural businesses in Nguru LGA.

Significance of the Study

The findings of this study will provide insight into how agricultural businesses in Nguru LGA can benefit from the application of CVP analysis in their financial planning and decision-making. The results could help guide farmers and agricultural managers in improving profitability and sustainability.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

The study will focus on agricultural businesses in Nguru LGA, including crop and livestock farming enterprises. Limitations include the availability of financial data and possible reluctance of business owners to share sensitive financial information.
