Background of the Study

Budgeting is a critical practice for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), as it helps ensure effective financial planning, resource allocation, and cost control. In Minna LGA, many SMEs face challenges in financial management, which can hinder their growth and sustainability. This study will assess the effectiveness of budgeting practices in promoting the growth of SMEs in Minna LGA.

Statement of the Problem

Despite the critical role of budgeting in business success, many SMEs in Minna LGA struggle with improper budgeting, lack of financial planning, and insufficient resource allocation. This leads to inefficient operations and hinders their growth. This study aims to evaluate the role of budgeting practices in promoting the growth of SMEs in Minna LGA.

Aim and Objectives of the Study

Aim: To assess the effectiveness of budgeting practices in promoting SME growth in Minna LGA.
Objectives:

  1. To examine the budgeting practices adopted by SMEs in Minna LGA.
  2. To assess the impact of budgeting on SME growth in the region.
  3. To identify challenges SMEs face in implementing effective budgeting practices.

Research Questions

  1. What budgeting practices are adopted by SMEs in Minna LGA?
  2. How do budgeting practices affect the growth of SMEs in Minna LGA?
  3. What challenges do SMEs in Minna LGA face in adopting effective budgeting practices?

Research Hypothesis

  1. H₀: Budgeting practices do not significantly contribute to the growth of SMEs in Minna LGA.
  2. H₀: There is no significant relationship between budgeting practices and SME growth in Minna LGA.
  3. H₀: Challenges in implementing budgeting practices do not significantly hinder SME growth in Minna LGA.

Significance of the Study

This study will provide insights into how SMEs in Minna LGA can enhance their financial planning and resource allocation practices to drive growth and sustainability.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

The study will focus on SMEs in Minna LGA, with potential limitations including data availability and the subjectivity of financial records provided by business owners.
