ABSTRACT
This study was carried out on the factors affecting the academic performance of the sandwich students using university of Lagos State as case study. To achieve this 2 research questions were formulated. Respondents were obtained from students of Lagos State university. The survey design was adopted and the simple random sampling techniques were employed in this study. The population size comprise of the entire students of the Lagos State University. In determining the sample size, the researcher purposively selected 240 respondents while 200 respondents were validated. Self-constructed and validated questionnaire was used for data collection. The collected and validated questionnaires were analyzed using frequency tables and percentage. While the hypothesis were tested using Pearson Correlation Statistical Tool SPSS v23. The result of the findings reveals that the factors affecting sandwich students’ academic performance include the following; Instructional Materials, human resources, test Phobia or anxiety, time management by sandwich students, academic competence, study Habit, and marital status. And these factors affects academic performance of students in very high extent, there is a significant relationship between age and academic performance, and there is a significant relationship between marital status and academic performance. Based on the above findings, the researcher recommended that there should be an adequate provision of essential teaching and instructional materials for effective teaching and learning process, student should be motivated and oriented on the need to adapt to an effective reading culture, lecturers should be enforced to use the available instructional materials during lecturing period, and Government should provide alternative power supply by providing generator plant for the universities.
