Background of the Study

Citizen journalism, which involves ordinary individuals reporting and disseminating news, has become an essential component of election monitoring, especially in areas where traditional media might face restrictions. In Jos South LGA, Plateau State, citizen journalists have played a crucial role in ensuring free and fair elections by reporting electoral malpractice, voter suppression, and irregularities. These grassroots reporters, who often operate via social media or mobile phones, are pivotal in creating transparency in electoral processes (Ali & Akpan, 2024). This study examines the role of citizen journalism in election monitoring in Jos South LGA, focusing on how citizen journalists contribute to election transparency and integrity.
