Background of the Study
Security issues in Nigeria, particularly in regions like Potiskum LGA in Yobe State, have become a critical concern due to the prevalence of insurgency, terrorism, and other forms of violence. Media coverage of security matters is crucial in shaping public perception, guiding government responses, and influencing national security policies. However, public trust in media coverage of security issues has been called into question, with concerns about sensationalism, bias, and misinformation. This study explores the public trust in media coverage of security issues in Potiskum LGA.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the importance of media in informing the public about security situations, many people in Potiskum LGA express skepticism about the media’s portrayal of security issues. Issues such as inaccurate reporting, biased narratives, and sensationalism have contributed to public mistrust of media outlets. This study aims to investigate the factors that influence public trust in media coverage of security matters in Potiskum LGA and assess the impact of this trust (or lack thereof) on public behavior and security perceptions.
