Background of the Study
Gender-based violence (GBV) remains a persistent issue in Nigeria, with devastating effects on the victims and communities. In Makurdi LGA, Benue State, reports of GBV, including domestic violence, sexual harassment, and female genital mutilation, have been a growing concern for both local authorities and activists. Journalism plays an essential role in raising awareness, educating the public, and advocating for victims' rights. Journalists, through investigative reporting, feature stories, and news coverage, can help expose perpetrators, provide a voice for survivors, and influence policy changes to combat GBV (Aminu & Emmanuel, 2024). This study explores how journalism in Makurdi LGA contributes to addressing gender-based violence and improving awareness of gender equality.
1.2 Statement of the Problem

The study aims to investigate how journalism in Makurdi LGA contributes to tackling gender-based violence, raising awareness, and promoting gender equality, focusing on the strengths and limitations of current media practices.
