Background of the Study
Urbanization is a significant global trend that presents both opportunities and challenges for communities. In Kaduna North LGA, rapid urbanization has led to challenges such as inadequate infrastructure, housing shortages, increased traffic congestion, and environmental degradation (Salihu & Ibrahim, 2023). Journalism plays a vital role in addressing these challenges by informing the public, influencing policy decisions, and advocating for sustainable urban development. This study examines the role of journalism in addressing urbanization challenges in Kaduna North LGA, focusing on how local media outlets report on urbanization-related issues and contribute to public discourse and policy change.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While urbanization brings economic growth and development, it also creates significant challenges for local governments and residents, particularly in fast-growing urban areas like Kaduna North LGA. Journalism, particularly in the form of investigative and advocacy reporting, can help raise awareness about these challenges and provide a platform for discussions on sustainable solutions.
