Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Street art, encompassing murals, graffiti, and installations, has emerged as a powerful medium for cultural expression and community engagement. In Ilorin South Local Government Area, Kwara State, street art plays a significant role in promoting urban cultural events, attracting diverse audiences, and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of public spaces. According to Adeyemi and Adebayo (2023), street art serves as a visual narrative that reflects local identity, history, and creativity. It creates a vibrant atmosphere that fosters community pride and encourages participation in cultural events. However, challenges such as vandalism, regulatory restrictions, and limited funding can hinder the potential of street art.
