Background of the Study

Public utilities, including water supply, electricity, and sanitation, are essential services that contribute to the overall well-being of communities. Local governments, such as Dala LGA, are tasked with providing these services, but they often struggle with inadequate funding. Tax revenue plays a crucial role in financing these essential services. However, the connection between tax revenue and the improvement of public utilities is often underexplored, particularly in local government areas.

In Dala LGA, inadequate funding for public utilities has led to poor service delivery, affecting the quality of life for residents. Taxation has the potential to provide a stable revenue stream for improving public utilities, but the efficiency of tax collection and allocation to these services remains a critical issue. This study examines the role of tax revenue in funding public utilities in Dala LGA, providing insights for improving the quality of life for residents through better-managed public service delivery.

Statement of the Problem

Public utilities in Dala LGA are inadequately funded, leading to poor service delivery. Although tax revenue has the potential to support these utilities, there is limited research on how effectively tax revenue contributes to the improvement of public utilities in the LGA. This study seeks to explore the role of tax revenue in enhancing public utility services in Dala LGA.

Aim and Objectives of the Study

Aim: To examine the contribution of tax revenue to the improvement of public utilities in Dala LGA.
Objectives:

  1. To assess the current tax revenue allocation for public utilities in Dala LGA.

  2. To examine the impact of tax revenue on the quality and accessibility of public utilities.

  3. To recommend ways to optimize tax revenue allocation for better public utility services.

Research Questions

  1. How much tax revenue is allocated to public utilities in Dala LGA?

  2. What impact does tax revenue have on the quality and accessibility of public utilities?

  3. What strategies can improve the allocation of tax revenue for public utilities?

Research Hypothesis

  1. H₀: Tax revenue does not significantly improve public utilities in Dala LGA.

  2. H₀: There is no significant relationship between tax revenue and the quality of public utilities in Dala LGA.

  3. H₀: Optimizing tax revenue allocation does not enhance public utility services in Dala LGA.

Significance of the Study

This study will contribute to the understanding of how tax revenue can support the development of public utilities in Dala LGA. It will provide recommendations that can help local governments manage and allocate tax revenues more effectively for better service delivery.

Scope and Limitation of the Study

The study is limited to the examination of tax revenue contributions to public utilities in Dala LGA. Limitations include potential difficulties in accessing tax records and the challenge of isolating tax revenue’s impact on public utilities from other funding sources.

Definition of Terms

  • Public Utilities: Essential services such as water supply, electricity, and sanitation provided by local governments.

  • Tax Revenue: Income generated by local governments through the collection of taxes.

  • Service Delivery: The provision of public services to residents.
