Background of the Study

Taxation is a fundamental mechanism for generating public revenue, enabling governments to fund essential services such as healthcare, education, and infrastructure. In Nigeria, healthcare funding remains a critical challenge, with many communities relying on underfunded public health facilities. Local governments, such as Sabon Gari LGA, often face significant gaps in healthcare funding due to inadequate tax revenue collection and allocation.

The relationship between taxation and healthcare funding is pivotal, as effective tax collection can provide a stable financial base for improving healthcare infrastructure and services. However, tax compliance levels, administrative inefficiencies, and perceptions of inequity in tax allocation often undermine the potential of taxation to meet healthcare funding needs. Research shows that a transparent and equitable tax system can enhance public trust, leading to improved compliance and revenue generation, which, in turn, supports better healthcare funding.

In Sabon Gari LGA, the interplay between taxation and healthcare funding remains underexplored. This study aims to investigate how taxation practices impact healthcare funding, providing insights for policymakers to optimize revenue use for health services.

Statement of the Problem

Healthcare facilities in Sabon Gari LGA are underfunded, leading to inadequate service delivery. Despite the potential of taxation to provide the necessary funding, issues such as poor compliance, administrative inefficiencies, and mistrust in revenue allocation hinder progress. This study examines the relationship between taxation and healthcare funding in the LGA to identify actionable solutions for improving public health services.
