Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Journalism ethics guide the practice of reporting by emphasizing principles such as truth, accuracy, fairness, and responsibility. Reporting in conflict zones like Ngala LGA, Borno State, presents unique ethical and practical challenges, including ensuring the safety of journalists, protecting vulnerable sources, and maintaining impartiality amidst intense socio-political pressures (Okoro & Ibrahim, 2024). Conflict reporting often involves navigating dangerous environments, where misinformation and propaganda are prevalent, and journalistic integrity is frequently tested. Ethical journalism in such contexts is crucial for providing accurate, balanced, and humane coverage that informs public understanding and aids conflict resolution.
