1.1 Background of the Study
Campus media, a vital component of student life, plays a significant role in shaping opinions, fostering dialogue, and driving social and political awareness among students. In Zaria LGA, Kaduna State, universities and other tertiary institutions have established vibrant campus media outlets, including newspapers, radio stations, and digital platforms. These platforms serve as avenues for students to express their views, share knowledge, and engage in debates on critical issues affecting their academic and social environments (Ibrahim & Abdullahi, 2024). The dynamic interplay between campus media content and student perspectives underscores the influence of localized journalism in promoting civic engagement and leadership development. As students are future leaders and influencers, understanding how campus media impacts their opinions is crucial for evaluating its role in shaping informed and active citizens.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the prominence of campus media in Zaria LGA, its specific influence on shaping student opinions remains underexplored. Concerns about bias, lack of editorial independence, and inadequate resources may limit its effectiveness as a platform for balanced discourse. Additionally, there is limited empirical data on the extent to which campus media influences students’ academic, social, and political attitudes. This study aims to address this gap by analyzing the role of campus media in shaping student opinions within the context of Zaria LGA.
