1.1 Background of the Study
Security personnel play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and orderliness of large events. In Kano Municipal Local Government Area (LGA), Kano State, events such as political rallies, religious gatherings, and cultural festivals attract large crowds, often requiring effective crowd control to prevent chaos and ensure public safety. The presence of well-trained security personnel is vital in mitigating risks, such as stampedes, theft, and violence, which are common challenges in densely populated events. Studies by Ibrahim and Usman (2024) emphasize that the strategic deployment of security personnel significantly enhances the overall success of large events. Despite the importance of their role, many events in Kano Municipal LGA face challenges such as inadequate security planning, poor coordination, and insufficient resources, leading to safety concerns. This study investigates the role of security personnel in managing crowd control, focusing on their strategies, challenges, and impact on event success.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Large events in Kano Municipal LGA are often characterized by overcrowding, which poses significant safety risks. The lack of effective crowd control measures has led to incidents of stampedes, property damage, and injuries, undermining the success of such events. While security personnel are tasked with maintaining order, challenges such as inadequate training, insufficient manpower, and lack of modern crowd management tools hinder their effectiveness. These issues necessitate a comprehensive evaluation of the role of security personnel in managing crowd control at large events in Kano Municipal LGA.
