Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Event advertising is a critical tool for promoting activities that contribute to rural development. In Yola North Local Government Area (LGA), Adamawa State, events such as agricultural fairs, skill acquisition programs, and cultural festivals serve as platforms for knowledge exchange, economic empowerment, and community engagement. Advertising these events through traditional media, social media, and grassroots channels ensures that rural populations are informed and motivated to participate. According to Ahmed et al. (2023), effective event advertising increases attendance, enhances knowledge dissemination, and fosters economic activities, all of which are essential for rural development. However, the full potential of event advertising in driving rural development in Yola North LGA remains underexplored. This study investigates the impact of event advertising on rural development, focusing on its role in increasing awareness, participation, and community benefits.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the potential of event advertising to drive rural development, many events in Yola North LGA suffer from low visibility and poor attendance. Limited access to effective advertising channels, inadequate funding, and low literacy levels among rural populations hinder the dissemination of event information. Consequently, the benefits of these events, such as skill acquisition and economic empowerment, are not fully realized. This study addresses these issues by evaluating the impact of event advertising on rural development in Yola North LGA.

  1. To examine the role of event advertising in promoting rural development in Yola North LGA.
  2. To assess the effectiveness of different advertising channels in reaching rural populations.
  3. To identify challenges associated with event advertising in rural areas.

1.4 Research Questions

  1. What role does event advertising play in promoting rural development in Yola North LGA?
  2. How effective are different advertising channels in reaching rural populations?
  3. What challenges are associated with event advertising in rural areas?

1.5 Research Hypotheses

  1. Event advertising significantly promotes rural development in Yola North LGA.
  2. Traditional and digital advertising channels effectively reach rural populations in Yola North LGA.
  3. Challenges such as limited access to media and funding affect the impact of event advertising on rural development.

1.6 Significance of the Study
The study is significant for event organizers, policymakers, and rural development agencies in Yola North LGA. It provides insights into the effectiveness of advertising strategies in promoting rural development and offers recommendations for improving outreach and participation. The findings will contribute to maximizing the impact of events on rural communities.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on the impact of event advertising on rural development in Yola North LGA, Adamawa State. It does not cover other aspects of rural development or event management outside the specified area.
