Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

The advent of digital technology has revolutionized the events industry, with online ticket sales emerging as a game-changer in improving event accessibility. Online platforms provide a seamless and efficient means for attendees to secure tickets, eliminating geographical barriers and long queues associated with traditional ticketing systems. In Dutse Local Government Area, Jigawa State, the adoption of online ticketing is gradually gaining traction, particularly as internet penetration increases in rural and urban areas. This system allows event organizers to reach a broader audience, providing real-time updates, promotions, and secure payment options (Abubakar et al., 2023). However, despite its potential, the effectiveness of online ticket sales in this region is influenced by factors such as internet connectivity, digital literacy, and trust in online payment systems. This study explores how online ticketing impacts event accessibility in Dutse LGA, analyzing both its advantages and the challenges that hinder its optimal implementation.

1.2 Statement of the Problem

While online ticket sales have transformed the events industry globally, their adoption in Dutse LGA faces several challenges that may impede their effectiveness. Moreover, low digital literacy levels among potential attendees and mistrust in online transactions further limit the reach and impact of this technology. Event organizers often struggle with integrating online platforms that are user-friendly and accessible to a diverse audience. These challenges raise critical questions about the efficacy of online ticketing in promoting event accessibility and inclusivity in Dutse LGA. This study seeks to address these gaps by evaluating the current state of online ticket sales and their role in enhancing accessibility.
