Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Local governments play a crucial role in supporting event management, acting as facilitators of community development through cultural, economic, and social events. In Damaturu LGA, local government involvement in event management has been seen as a way to foster unity, boost local businesses, and promote cultural heritage. Events supported by local governments provide a platform for talent showcasing, networking, and fostering communal engagement. Despite these benefits, the extent and effectiveness of local government support for event management in Damaturu remain underexplored. This study seeks to provide an in-depth analysis of how local government initiatives, funding, and resources contribute to the success of event management in the area.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
While local governments are pivotal to the success of community events, challenges such as insufficient funding, inadequate infrastructure, and lack of strategic planning often undermine their contributions. In Damaturu LGA, there is limited documentation on the specific roles played by the local government in event management and the challenges faced in delivering effective support. This study aims to bridge this knowledge gap by examining the support provided by the local government and its impact on the planning, execution, and outcomes of events in Damaturu.
