Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Women’s entrepreneurship has proven to be a significant driver of economic growth and poverty alleviation in communities worldwide. Despite this, many women in Katsina Central LGA face socio-cultural and economic barriers that hinder their entrepreneurial pursuits. Public Relations (PR) can play a transformative role by creating awareness, advocating for policy changes, and promoting success stories to inspire and empower women. Effective PR campaigns can mobilize stakeholders to create an environment conducive to women’s economic empowerment.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
In Katsina Central LGA, there is limited awareness and support for women’s entrepreneurship, which restricts their ability to contribute to economic development. This study investigates how PR strategies can encourage entrepreneurship among women by addressing these barriers and fostering an inclusive entrepreneurial ecosystem.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  1. To examine the role of PR in promoting women’s entrepreneurship in Katsina Central LGA.
  2. To identify PR strategies that effectively address barriers to women’s entrepreneurship.
  3. To assess the impact of PR campaigns on women’s entrepreneurial initiatives.

1.4 Research Questions

  1. How does PR promote women’s entrepreneurship in Katsina Central LGA?
  2. What PR strategies effectively address socio-cultural and economic barriers?
  3. What is the impact of PR campaigns on women’s entrepreneurial activities?

1.5 Research Hypotheses

  1. H0: PR has no significant influence on encouraging women’s entrepreneurship.
  2. H1: Targeted PR strategies positively impact women’s entrepreneurial participation.
  3. H2: Addressing socio-cultural barriers enhances the effectiveness of PR efforts.

1.6 Significance of the Study
The findings will provide insights for policymakers, advocacy groups, and development organizations on leveraging PR to empower women through entrepreneurship.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on PR strategies for encouraging entrepreneurship among women in Katsina Central LGA.

1.8 Operational Definition of Terms
