Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Bullying is a pervasive issue affecting individuals in schools, workplaces, and communities, with significant psychological, social, and educational implications. In Lokoja Local Government Area (LGA), Kogi State, anti-bullying awareness campaigns have been implemented to foster a safer and more inclusive environment. Public relations (PR) campaigns play a critical role in disseminating information, promoting positive behavioral change, and mobilizing community support against bullying. According to Olatunji and Abubakar (2024), PR strategies such as community outreach, media advocacy, and stakeholder engagement are effective tools for raising awareness and reducing bullying incidents. This study evaluates the effectiveness of PR campaigns in promoting anti-bullying awareness in Lokoja LGA.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite efforts to address bullying in Lokoja LGA, the issue persists, with many victims suffering in silence due to stigma and a lack of awareness. While PR campaigns have been initiated to tackle this challenge, their effectiveness in creating widespread awareness and behavioral change remains underexplored.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  1. To identify PR strategies used in promoting anti-bullying awareness in Lokoja LGA.
  2. To assess the effectiveness of these campaigns in reducing bullying incidents.
  3. To recommend strategies for enhancing the impact of anti-bullying PR campaigns.

1.4 Research Questions

  1. What PR strategies are employed to promote anti-bullying awareness in Lokoja LGA?

  3. What improvements can be made to PR campaigns for better anti-bullying outcomes?

1.5 Research Hypotheses

  1. PR campaigns significantly influence public awareness of bullying in Lokoja LGA.
  2. Effective PR strategies contribute to a reduction in bullying incidents.
  3. Enhanced PR campaigns can lead to improved anti-bullying awareness and prevention.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study provides insights into the role of PR in addressing bullying, offering recommendations for PR practitioners, educators, and policymakers to design more effective awareness campaigns.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on PR campaigns promoting anti-bullying awareness in Lokoja LGA, Kogi State.
