Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Public utilities such as water, electricity, and waste management are essential services that underpin societal development. In Suleja LGA, Niger State, perceptions of public utilities are often negative, stemming from service inefficiencies and communication gaps between providers and consumers. Public Relations (PR) plays a crucial role in bridging this gap by fostering transparency, engaging communities, and rebuilding trust. By emphasizing the benefits of these utilities and addressing consumer concerns, PR strategies can improve public perceptions and promote greater collaboration between service providers and the community.

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite ongoing efforts to enhance service delivery, public utilities in Suleja LGA are frequently perceived as unreliable, leading to low trust and community dissatisfaction. This study investigates how PR can be used to improve these perceptions and rebuild public confidence.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study highlights the potential of PR to reshape public perceptions of utilities, providing valuable insights for service providers, policymakers, and communication practitioners.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study is confined to PR strategies and their impact on perceptions of public utilities in Suleja LGA, Niger State.
