Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Infant mortality is a critical indicator of public health and societal development. In Hong LGA, Adamawa State, the prevalence of preventable diseases, inadequate healthcare access, and socio-economic challenges contribute to high infant mortality rates. Public relations (PR) serves as a powerful tool in addressing these issues by creating awareness, promoting healthcare services, and encouraging behavioral change. Through targeted messaging and community engagement, PR campaigns can educate caregivers about immunization, nutrition, and hygiene practices. Research highlights the significant impact of PR strategies in improving child health outcomes, particularly in underserved regions (Bello & Umar, 2024).
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite interventions aimed at reducing infant mortality in Hong LGA, many families remain unaware of life-saving practices and healthcare services. Poor communication between healthcare providers and communities further exacerbates the issue. This study investigates how PR can effectively address these gaps and contribute to lowering infant mortality rates.
