Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study

Music festivals are vibrant cultural events that serve as platforms for entertainment, education, and social interaction, particularly among youth. In Jos North Local Government Area, music festivals have become increasingly popular, offering opportunities for youth engagement through performances, workshops, and networking activities. Studies have shown that music festivals foster creativity, promote cultural exchange, and encourage community participation (Aliyu & Musa, 2023). In a region marked by ethnic diversity and occasional tensions, music festivals also act as unifying platforms that bring young people together, fostering a sense of community. This study examines the role of music festivals in enhancing youth engagement in Jos North LGA, focusing on their social, cultural, and economic impacts.
