Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Religious harmony is vital for peaceful coexistence, social stability, and economic development, especially in multi-religious communities such as Pankshin LGA, Plateau State. Public relations (PR) plays a pivotal role in fostering interfaith dialogue, reducing tensions, and promoting mutual understanding among diverse religious groups. By employing communication strategies such as dialogue facilitation, conflict resolution campaigns, and public sensitization programs, PR can bridge divides and promote a culture of tolerance. Research has highlighted the effectiveness of PR in creating platforms for collaboration and fostering unity in pluralistic societies (Bala & Yusuf, 2023).

Despite efforts to promote religious harmony in Pankshin LGA, interfaith conflicts and misunderstandings persist due to inadequate communication, prejudice, and lack of trust. This study investigates the role of PR in addressing these issues, focusing on its ability to foster understanding and mitigate tensions among religious groups.
