Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Renewable energy adoption is crucial for addressing energy poverty and mitigating the impacts of climate change. In Jalingo LGA, Taraba State, public relations (PR) has the potential to promote the adoption of renewable energy technologies by raising awareness, dispelling myths, and fostering stakeholder collaboration. PR strategies such as educational campaigns, media advocacy, and community workshops can play a significant role in demonstrating the benefits of renewable energy and encouraging public acceptance. Studies emphasize that PR is critical in shaping public perceptions and driving policy changes necessary for sustainable energy transitions (Ibrahim & Okon, 2023).

1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the availability of renewable energy options, adoption rates in Jalingo LGA remain low due to limited awareness, misinformation, and financial constraints. This study examines the role of PR in overcoming these barriers and promoting renewable energy adoption in the area.

1.3 Objectives of the Study

  1. To evaluate the role of PR in promoting renewable energy adoption in Jalingo LGA.
  2. To identify effective PR strategies for addressing misconceptions about renewable energy.
  3. To assess the challenges of implementing PR campaigns for renewable energy promotion.

1.4 Research Questions

  1. How does PR contribute to renewable energy adoption in Jalingo LGA?
  2. What PR strategies are effective in addressing misconceptions about renewable energy?
  3. What challenges hinder the success of PR campaigns for renewable energy promotion?

1.5 Research Hypotheses

  1. H0: PR has no significant impact on renewable energy adoption in Jalingo LGA.
  2. H1: Effective PR strategies enhance public acceptance of renewable energy technologies.
  3. H2: Addressing financial constraints improves the outcomes of PR campaigns for renewable energy adoption.

1.6 Significance of the Study
This study highlights the role of PR in encouraging renewable energy adoption, offering practical recommendations for energy policymakers, PR practitioners, and community leaders. Its findings aim to contribute to sustainable energy transitions and environmental conservation.

1.7 Scope and Limitations of the Study
The study focuses on PR practices promoting renewable energy adoption in Jalingo LGA, excluding other environmental or energy-related issues.
