Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Multicultural communities like Otukpo LGA, Benue State, often face challenges related to diversity, such as cultural misunderstandings and ethnic tensions. Public relations (PR) serves as a vital tool for promoting peaceful coexistence by fostering dialogue, addressing stereotypes, and advocating for inclusivity. PR campaigns leverage communication strategies such as community forums, cultural festivals, and media engagement to bridge gaps between different ethnic and cultural groups. Studies reveal that PR can mitigate conflicts and enhance social cohesion when employed effectively (Odeyemi & Abdulrahman, 2023). By highlighting shared values and encouraging collaboration, PR contributes to the development of harmonious and resilient multicultural communities.
