Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Urban waste management has become a pressing issue in rapidly growing cities like Bauchi North LGA, Bauchi State. Public relations (PR) serves as a crucial tool in raising awareness, influencing public attitudes, and mobilizing community action to address waste management challenges. Effective PR strategies such as educational campaigns, stakeholder engagement, and media advocacy can create a sense of collective responsibility among residents, policymakers, and waste management authorities. Studies have shown that PR initiatives tailored to local contexts significantly enhance waste management outcomes by promoting sustainable practices and fostering partnerships (Ahmed & Yusuf, 2024). PR also plays a role in addressing misconceptions about waste disposal and recycling, ultimately contributing to a cleaner and healthier urban environment.
