Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Ethnic tensions remain a critical issue in many communities, including Wamba LGA, where diverse ethnic groups coexist. Public relations (PR) serves as a strategic tool for promoting peace and fostering mutual understanding in such contexts. Through conflict-sensitive communication, stakeholder engagement, and dialogue facilitation, PR can help manage ethnic tensions and promote coexistence. By addressing misinformation, fostering cultural awareness, and building trust among different groups, PR enhances community cohesion and reduces the risk of conflict escalation (Okoro & Ahmed, 2024). 1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite PR’s potential to address ethnic tensions, limited resources, lack of expertise, and entrenched mistrust often undermine its effectiveness in Wamba LGA. This study examines the challenges and opportunities of using PR to manage ethnic tensions and promote harmony.
