Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Community engagement is a cornerstone of successful local events, fostering a sense of ownership, inclusivity, and active participation among residents. In Gombe Local Government Area, local events, including cultural festivals, youth empowerment programs, and town hall meetings, rely heavily on community involvement for their planning and execution. Effective engagement strategies such as community forums, stakeholder consultations, and volunteer involvement enhance the relevance and impact of these events (Abubakar & Hassan, 2023; Yahaya et al., 2024). However, inadequate engagement often results in poor attendance, lack of cultural resonance, and minimal long-term benefits. This study explores how community engagement contributes to the success of local events in Gombe LGA, highlighting the practices that foster collaboration and inclusivity.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the importance of community engagement in local event success, many organizers in Gombe LGA fail to prioritize inclusive participation. Challenges such as inadequate communication, lack of stakeholder representation, and limited access to resources undermine the effectiveness of these events. As a result, events often fail to meet community expectations or achieve their intended objectives. This study addresses these gaps by examining the role of community engagement in ensuring the success of local events in Gombe LGA.
