Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
In regions like Wukari LGA, Taraba State, grappling with security challenges such as communal clashes, banditry, and insurgencies, media coverage plays a pivotal role in informing the public and influencing policy responses. Journalists have the responsibility to report accurately while navigating risks, ethical dilemmas, and potential biases. Effective media coverage can raise awareness, promote peacebuilding, and hold authorities accountable for security measures. However, inadequate resources, censorship, and safety risks often impede comprehensive reporting, leaving gaps in public understanding and responses to security challenges (Ahmed & Oche, 2024).
