Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Cultural festivals represent a vital aspect of heritage and identity, serving as platforms for preserving traditions and fostering community cohesion. The Argungu Fishing Festival in Argungu LGA, Kebbi State, stands out as a globally recognized cultural event, attracting visitors and media coverage from around the world. However, reporting on such festivals involves navigating a complex interplay of logistical, ethical, and cultural challenges. Journalists must balance the need to inform and educate with respect for cultural sensitivity and accuracy. Despite its prominence, media coverage of cultural festivals in Argungu often falls short of capturing their depth and significance, highlighting the need for improved reporting approaches (Suleiman & Ahmed, 2023).

1.2 Statement of the Problem
While cultural festivals in Argungu are rich in tradition and symbolism, their representation in the media is often limited by challenges such as inadequate journalist training, logistical difficulties, and limited access to comprehensive cultural knowledge.
