Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Event technology has become a cornerstone of modern event management, providing tools and platforms that transform traditional event experiences into interactive, engaging, and measurable experiences. In Birnin Gwari Local Government Area, Kaduna State, the adoption of event technologies such as mobile apps, virtual reality, live streaming, and interactive audience tools is beginning to gain traction. These technologies facilitate better communication, enhance participation, and provide real-time feedback mechanisms, making events more inclusive and dynamic. Studies from recent years emphasize the growing reliance on technology to create hybrid and virtual event experiences, particularly in the post-COVID-19 era (Okafor & Ibrahim, 2023; Yusuf et al., 2024). Event organizers in Birnin Gwari, however, face challenges such as limited technological infrastructure and uneven levels of digital literacy, which affect the accessibility and effectiveness of these tools. This study investigates how event technology is used to enhance audience engagement in Birnin Gwari, examining its impact and identifying barriers to its successful adoption.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the proven benefits of event technology, its adoption in Birnin Gwari LGA has been slow and inconsistent, leading to missed opportunities for improving audience engagement. Many events still rely on traditional methods, which may fail to capture the attention of tech-savvy attendees. Additionally, limited access to internet services, lack of awareness about available technological tools, and resistance to change further complicate the integration of event technology. This study aims to explore how event technology can be effectively utilized in Birnin Gwari, addressing the barriers that limit its impact on audience engagement.
