Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) mechanisms have gained prominence as effective tools for resolving conflicts peacefully and efficiently. In Wamba LGA, Nasarawa State, disputes over land, resources, and communal issues are common. However, the adoption of ADR practices remains limited due to low awareness and cultural resistance. Public Relations (PR) can bridge this gap by promoting the benefits of ADR through community sensitization, media campaigns, and stakeholder engagement.
PR campaigns can demystify ADR processes, emphasize their cost-effectiveness, and showcase success stories, thereby fostering trust and acceptance. Recent research has shown that PR plays a significant role in enhancing public understanding and utilization of ADR mechanisms (Abubakar & Eze, 2024). This study explores how PR can promote ADR in Wamba LGA.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the availability of ADR mechanisms in Wamba LGA, many residents continue to rely on litigation or resort to violent conflict resolution methods. This is largely due to limited awareness and misconceptions about ADR. PR strategies that could address these challenges are underutilized. This study examines the role of PR in promoting ADR in the region.
