Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) play a pivotal role in addressing social, economic, and environmental challenges in communities. In Gummi LGA, Zamfara State, NGOs work to provide essential services such as healthcare, education, and poverty alleviation. Public Relations (PR) is crucial in enhancing the effectiveness of these organizations by fostering stakeholder trust, promoting transparency, and ensuring public engagement.
PR strategies in NGOs involve advocacy, donor communication, and community relations to ensure alignment with beneficiaries' needs. Recent studies underscore the importance of PR in driving the visibility and credibility of NGOs, particularly in resource-constrained areas (Adebayo & Usman, 2023). However, many NGOs in Gummi LGA face challenges in implementing effective PR strategies due to limited resources and expertise. This study examines the effectiveness of PR in NGOs operating in Gummi LGA, focusing on its strategies, outcomes, and limitations.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Despite the critical role of NGOs in community development, many struggle to achieve their objectives due to poor communication strategies and limited public trust. PR offers solutions to these challenges, yet its application in NGOs in Gummi LGA is underexplored. This study investigates the effectiveness of PR in enhancing NGO operations, identifying barriers and proposing improvements.
