Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Religious institutions play a pivotal role in shaping social and moral values, fostering community cohesion, and providing spiritual guidance. However, these institutions are not immune to crises, including leadership disputes, financial scandals, and conflicts stemming from doctrinal differences. In Zaria LGA, Kaduna State, where religious institutions significantly influence societal dynamics, the ability to manage crises effectively is essential for maintaining trust and unity.
Public Relations (PR) is an indispensable tool in crisis management, particularly within religious institutions. PR strategies such as transparent communication, stakeholder engagement, and reputation management are critical for resolving conflicts and rebuilding trust. By proactively addressing issues and fostering dialogue, PR professionals help religious organizations navigate crises while safeguarding their credibility and influence. This study investigates the role of PR in crisis management within religious institutions in Zaria LGA, examining its effectiveness, challenges, and impact on institutional stability.
1.2 Statement of the Problem
Religious institutions in Zaria LGA often face crises that threaten their reputation and the trust of their followers. Mismanagement of such crises can lead to prolonged conflicts, loss of membership, and diminished influence in the community. While PR offers tools for effective crisis management, its application within religious institutions remains underexplored. This study aims to fill this gap by examining how PR strategies can be utilized to address crises in religious institutions in Zaria LGA.
