Chapter One: Introduction

1.1 Background of the Study
Media framing shapes how societal issues are perceived, influencing public opinion, policy discussions, and social change. Women’s rights, encompassing issues such as gender equality, access to education, healthcare, and protection against violence, are vital in fostering societal development. In Numan LGA, Adamawa State, women face unique challenges due to cultural, socio-economic, and institutional barriers. The media plays a pivotal role in highlighting these issues, but the way women's rights are framed significantly impacts their prioritization and resolution.

Media framing involves the selection and presentation of aspects of reality to emphasize particular interpretations. Positive framing can empower women by shedding light on their achievements and struggles, while negative or stereotypical framing may reinforce biases and downplay critical issues. This study explores how women’s rights issues are framed by the media in Numan LGA and examines the implications for advocacy and policy.
