Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Health campaigns play a pivotal role in addressing public health challenges by disseminating critical information, promoting behavioral change, and encouraging community participation. When integrated into community event planning, these campaigns leverage the broad appeal and diverse audiences of events to amplify their reach and effectiveness. Makurdi Local Government Area, the administrative hub of Benue State, is renowned for its vibrant community events, ranging from cultural festivals to public gatherings. These events present an excellent opportunity for embedding health campaigns to improve public health outcomes.
Community events provide a dynamic platform for health-related messaging due to their ability to gather people across demographic and socioeconomic backgrounds. According to Johnson and Akinyele (2024), incorporating health campaigns into community events enhances public engagement and fosters collective action toward health improvement goals.
