Background of the Study
Revenue generation at the local government level is essential for financing development projects, social services, and public infrastructure. Effective governmental accounting systems are necessary to ensure proper revenue collection, monitoring, and utilization. Mubi South LGA, like many local governments in Nigeria, faces challenges in revenue generation due to inefficiencies in accounting practices, lack of proper records, and a high level of tax evasion. This study seeks to explore the impact of governmental accounting on revenue generation in Mubi South LGA, Adamawa State. It will evaluate how accounting practices influence the local government’s ability to generate and utilize revenue effectively.
Statement of the Problem
Mubi South LGA has struggled with low revenue generation despite its potential sources of income, including taxes, levies, and grants. This low revenue generation is partly due to inadequate governmental accounting practices, which result in poor tracking, reporting, and management of local government finances. This study aims to assess how governmental accounting practices impact revenue generation in Mubi South LGA and identify ways to improve revenue collection.
