Background of the Study
Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) in Jos North LGA play a significant role in addressing social challenges such as poverty, education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability. However, the success and sustainability of these organizations are heavily influenced by their financial accountability practices. Financial accountability ensures that NGOs properly manage resources, adhere to funding guidelines, and deliver their objectives effectively. This study aims to evaluate the effect of financial accountability on the operations and performance of NGOs in Jos North LGA.

Statement of the Problem
Many NGOs in Jos North LGA face challenges related to financial mismanagement, fraud, and lack of transparency in their operations. These issues often result in inefficiencies and can undermine the effectiveness of their programs. This study seeks to investigate how financial accountability affects the overall operations and performance of NGOs in the region.

Aim and Objectives of the Study
The aim of this study is to examine the impact of financial accountability on the operations of NGOs in Jos North LGA. The specific objectives are:

  1. To evaluate the financial accountability practices employed by NGOs in Jos North LGA.
  2. To assess the relationship between financial accountability and the operational effectiveness of NGOs.
  3. To recommend strategies for improving financial accountability within NGOs to enhance their impact.

Research Questions

  1. What financial accountability practices are employed by NGOs in Jos North LGA?

  3. What measures can be implemented to improve financial accountability in NGOs operating in Jos North LGA?

Research Hypotheses

  1. NGOs with higher financial accountability practices have greater operational success and impact in Jos North LGA.
  2. Poor financial accountability leads to inefficiencies and reduced effectiveness in NGO operations in Jos North LGA.
  3. Improved financial accountability will enhance transparency, trust, and resource mobilization for NGOs.

Significance of the Study
This study will provide insights into how financial accountability influences the operations of NGOs, highlighting the importance of transparency and proper financial management for the success and sustainability of these organizations.

Scope and Limitation of the Study
The study focuses on NGOs operating in Jos North LGA and may not reflect practices in other regions. A limitation of the study is the difficulty in accessing internal financial records of NGOs due to privacy concerns.
