Background of the Study

Public sector projects, particularly those implemented by local governments, require careful oversight to ensure that funds are used efficiently and in compliance with established regulations. One of the critical mechanisms for enhancing accountability in public sector projects is auditing. Auditors review financial reports, evaluate adherence to budgetary constraints, and ensure transparency in the use of public funds.

In Gwale Local Government Area, audits play a crucial role in ensuring that public sector projects are carried out in a transparent, accountable, and efficient manner. However, challenges such as resource constraints and political interference sometimes undermine the effectiveness of audits. Statement of the Problem

  2. To analyze the impact of auditing on financial accountability in public sector projects.

  3. To recommend strategies to improve auditing practices and enhance accountability in public sector projects.

  3. What measures can be taken to improve the auditing practices for better accountability in public sector projects?

Research Hypotheses

Auditing practices positively impact financial accountability in public sector projects.

The lack of proper auditing practices results in inefficiency and lack of accountability in public sector projects.

Strengthening auditing practices will improve the financial performance and accountability of public sector projects in Gwale Local Government Area.

Significance of the Study

This study will provide valuable insights into the role of auditing in ensuring transparency and accountability in local government projects, promoting better management of public resources.
