Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Protests have long been a means for marginalized and oppressed groups to voice their grievances and demand change. In Nigeria, women have played a pivotal role in many social and political movements, despite facing significant cultural and structural barriers. The EndBadGovernance protests of 2024 are a recent example of this dynamic, where women emerged as crucial participants and leaders in the movement.
Historically, Nigerian women have been at the forefront of several significant protests. The Aba Women’s Riot of 1929 is a notable example, where women protested against colonial policies and economic injustices. 1.6 Scope and Delimitation of the Study

The scope is limited to the gender dynamics within this specific protest movement and does not cover all protest movements in Nigeria.
